01Overview

Public housing programmes are strategically central to Precast Africa's purpose and operationally the most demanding. Approvals, infrastructure, community process and payment cycles all run to their own timetable.

This study takes the standard module to a two-module dwelling, and tests what changes when the same unit is delivered several hundred times across a programme rather than once on a site.

02The constraint

Volume delivery normally increases site supervision in direct proportion to output. Quality then becomes a function of how many inspectors are available on the day.

Programmes are also judged long after handover. A dwelling that degrades in five years transfers cost to the occupant and to the public purse, which makes durability a procurement question rather than an aesthetic one.

03The response

Inspection moves into the factory, where the same hold points apply to every unit and the record is retained per module. Supervision scales with the production line, not with the number of sites.

The product is permanent reinforced concrete with a design life measured in decades. It is not a temporary unit and it is not a container derivative — a distinction that matters for maintenance liability, insurance and long-term programme cost.
