02Base module · Vertical circulation
Stair module — Circulation, cast to fit. A full precast flight with both landings, produced on adjustable tooling so a scheme's stair geometries come from one mould rather than one mould each.

- Type
- Precast stair, flight with landings
- Flight
- Up to 16 steps · 0.25 m going · 0.17 m riser
- Production
- Adjustable horizontal mould

16
Steps per flight
Maximum flight on the adjustable bed. Shorter flights are set on the same tooling.
0.25m
Going
Tread depth, set on guided step formers.
0.17m
Riser
Adjusted on the same formers — a new rise does not need a new mould.
≈2.72m
Storey rise
Calculated: 16 risers at 0.17 m. Confirmed per scheme against storey height.
1.2m
Landing
Two landings, one at each end of the flight, cast with it.
01The element
The stair arrives finished.
The stair is cast on an adjustable horizontal mould that produces a full flight together with a landing at each end. Tread and riser are set on guided step formers; the flight width is adjusted with magnet-fixed side boards. Changing the stair geometry is a setting change on the same bed.
That matters at scheme scale. A multi-storey development rarely has one stair condition — ground-to-first often differs from the typical floor — and procuring a separate mould, or a separate supplier, for each variation is where cost and programme quietly leak. One adjustable bed removes the variation as a commercial problem.
02What the module carries
Vertical circulation. A full flight with both landings, cast as one.
01
One mould, many geometries
Going, riser and width are settings on guided formers and magnet-fixed boards, not properties of the tooling.
02
Landings cast with the flight
Both landings come off the bed as part of the piece, so the connections that usually need forming on site arrive already made.
03
One quality regime
Stairs and Core modules are produced in the same factory under the same inspection, which removes the supplier interface on the critical path.
04
Circulation off the programme
Stairs are placed as the structure stacks rather than built behind it, so vertical access is available as floors are completed.
03Seen closer
The piece, and what it becomes.

04In the factory
Set, cast, lift.
A horizontal bed is what makes the adjustment possible: the steps are formed on the surface of the mould rather than inside a closed box, so the formers can move.
- 01
Set the geometry
Guided step formers are positioned for the scheme's going and riser; side boards are set to the flight width on magnets.
- 02
Reinforce
Cage, cast-ins and lifting anchors are placed and checked against the frozen drawing, landings included.
- 03
Cast
The flight and both landings are poured together, so the landing-to-flight junction is concrete rather than a connection.
- 04
Strip and lift
Side boards release from the magnets, the piece is lifted clear on the 30-tonne frame, inspected and moved to the yard.

Flight geometry is source-stated in the equipment manufacturer’s specification, July 2026; storey rise is calculated from it. All dimensions, tolerances, reinforcement, connections and performance claims remain subject to approved engineering and product-specific certification.
Circulation, and the space it serves.
The Stair module carries movement between storeys. The habitable space it serves is the Core module — the volume every Precast Africa development model is assembled from.
